Hi, fellow BFSP'ers, my name is Doug Scobel. I'm with the University
Lowbrow Astronomers, based in Ann Arbor Michigan (go Blue!). As usual,
this year's Black Forest Star Party was fantastic, even with the wet
field. You folks who organize it deserve a huge THANK YOU for hosting a
first rate star party! It makes the 400+ mile drive from Ann Arbor more
than worth it. This year's BFSP was the third in a row for many of us,
and the fourth for a couple. Here's a group picture. From left to right
is yours truly, Jim Wadsworth, Mark ("Atta boy, Jim!") Deprest, Bobby
and Joni Gruszczynski, Chris Sarnecki, and Doug Nelle.
One of your guest speakers, Ted Nichols II, inspired me to observe the
outer planets in my homemade 13" dob. For the first time ever, I saw
Uranus naked eye, observed two of its moons, Oberon and Titania,
observed Neptune's moon Triton, and observed Pluto! Here's my sketch and
write-up for the Pluto observation.
Thanks again for a great time. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone
again next year!
